Chaa Creek Nature Reserve in Cayo, Belize

Set along the banks of the Macal River, the Chaa Creek Nature Reserve is a 400-acre protected area that offers extensive ecotourism facilities in Cayo, Belize. Cayo is known for having a multitude of Maya temples, caves, rivers, and natural attractions, all of which are loved by jungle explorers.

The nature reserve is open to day visitors and overnight guests who can stay at an on-site luxury eco-resort or rustic eco-pods.

Visiting Chaa Creek

The Chaa Creek Nature Reserve is located 7 miles (11 km) west of San Ignacio, which serves as a hub for jungle adventures in western Belize and nearby Guatemala.

Along with a series of hiking trails, highlights within the nature reserve include a natural history museum, butterfly farm, Belize medicinal plants trail, Maya organic farm, horseback riding, rainforest RTV tours, and an uncovered Maya site. It’s also a great place to spot wildlife such as birds and howler monkeys.
